Patchouli is a fragrant bushy perennial herb native to the tropical regions of Asia. The leaves are picked two or three time a year and are left to dry and ferment before being distilled to release their dark orange or amber viscous essential oil. Patchouli instills a sense of peace and ‘spirituality’ and calms and regulates the flow of breathing so is often applied as an aid to meditation and an anti-anxiety remedy. Patchouli also alleviates nervous tension and exhaustion, is grounding and restorative, among many other qualities.
